4REAL United: A Night with 4REAL Yawanawa at the U.N.

The 4REAL team was honored to have the chance to screen 4REAL Yawanawa and talk about 4REAL's mission, as well as further shed light on indigenous rights, at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on April 29.
The event was part of the UN's annual Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
After the screening, a panel featuring 4REAL co-creators, Sol Guy and Josh Thome; Chief Tashka Yawanawa; Dominique Conseil, president of Aveda, and Piragibe Tarrago, Brazil's ambassador to the UN addressed the crowd of more than 500 people.
"All I could think about was to give thanks," Sol says. "We asked to be the bearers of this message and through the beauty and struggle of (featured leaders) Tashka, Puma, Liz, Camzeuse and countless others, we have managed to reflect a small piece of their spirit."
4REAL Yawanawa, with guest celebrity Joaquin Phoenix, tells Tashka and his wife Laura’s remarkable story of how they helped their community come back from the brink of extinction, and protect the endangered Amazon rainforest in Brazil.
In a press release about the U.N. screening, Susanne Boyce, President of Creative, Content and Channels at CTV (CTV is the mother company to MTV in Canada, which broadcasts 4REAL) had this to say: “4REAL is a success story for Canada not only because it has received international recognition, but because it aims to affect positive change around the world. CTV is committed to supporting inspiring programming and we are proud to be a part of this ground-breaking series, created by two dedicated and talented Canadians. Congratulations Sol and Josh!”

Much thanks to David Hircock with Aveda (a company that works with the Yawanawa -- Aveda uses urucum seeds from the Yawanawa land to make red dye for its products) and Pamela Kraft of Tribal Link for making the night possible.
