Program Summary The present document aims to give a harrowing alert generated by the possible exploitation of mineral resources in the municipality of Cauca Timbiqui, it would bring disastrous environmental consequences and serious social problems. For the past two months has been commenting on the banks of the river Timbiqui the possible exploitation of mineral resources in the village of Santa Maria, an area of high biodiversity. This would occur because an association called Corposantimar after having held private discussions with the mayor of the municipality, businesses and community council president decided that this project would be viable, which is an outrage, because it is not attended by community and authorities for the protection of natural resources, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cauca (CRC), the Ministry of Environment and government entities. Characterization of the area under exploitation. The village of Santa Maria in Timbiqui in the department of Cauca is a rainforest area with a large water system that empties into the Pacific Ocean in this area of the department of Cauca are a wide variety of flora and fauna, its river principal is called secondary Timbiqui and its tributaries are varied, among which we find the river Cesecito the Bubuey among others. These rivers that make the area are always supplied with fresh water, clean and pure air generated by the trees in their environment and make it in a place conducive to reducing greenhouse gases. On the social side we find a community that lives in peace without problems of public order, a particularly human quality, which is enviable. This community of Afropeople whish lifestyle is appropriated for the environment where they take what they need to survival to from the environment with minimal impact and negligible. The reason why we drafted this document about Timbiqui is because we feel a great concern because we have received valuable information from its residents on a possible exploitation of mining resources (gold), that with the arrival of 28 excavators machines, what seems far-fetched, the impact will be generated by the number of machines, an impact similar to what is occurring in Zaragoza, village of Buenaventura, which is crossed by the river Dagua, the epicenter of the mining industry. Here we see how tons of soils are eroded daily and deforestation as the species moved from the place and many of its inhabitants. In a stretch of 18 kilometers along the banks of the river are the machines that dig the ground to search for gold, but the main impact affects Dagua River which suffers the most serious consequences as shown in the picture below. Program Details denounce to the competent authorities and make a document about the problem in this area. |
