Program Summary I’m trying to raise $500 for my favorite cause, VOICES (also known as VONA – Voices of Our Nation Arts Foundation), a group that supports writers of color, by the end of the month. If you would consider donating just $10 each, you can help me reach my goal! (Warren Wright, my former colleague, and friend Ed Lin (author of Waylaid and This is a Bust) have done the heavy lifting already, giving $100 each toward my goal, so only $300 to go!) The money will go toward a scholarship for one emerging writer to attend the VONA writing workshops this summer. Many of you have heard me rave about VONA. I’ve been attending the workshops for eight years and it’s changed my life. The teachers, all of them accomplished, stellar writers, including Junot Diaz, Chris Abani and Suheir Hammad, give so much to the students they teach, helping them improve their craft and tell their stories. Thank you in advance. I know times are tough, but I also know that nonprofits like VONA need our help now more than ever in order to keep doing the important work they do.
